Hello world!

Yes, I’m going to be cliché and leave the above title.
This is my first blog post, and I am excited to share with you the ever-lengthening list of projects I have to Make This House My Home.

It all started when we began looking for a new house. Let me rephrase, it began when we started looking to buy a house… well, let me start before then…

My husband and I married in November 2009. The three of us (husband, me and stepdaughter) moved into this little basement apartment. 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, the kitchen and the living room were just one room, oh and no dining room. It worked ok for a while, then we had a baby… And then another baby, and we had to get the heck out of that place.

We found a house we love near the lake. We love the space, being nearly 3 times the space of the old place. But it wasn’t ours. There were always little things we would talk about doing “if this were our house,” and we would never do for fear of breaking our lease.

So the search began. We had several things we had to have if we were going to buy a house:

  • Good schools for the kids
  • Close to the city, work, shopping
  • 3 bedrooms with separate office space
  • Large closet in master
  • Yard (fenced)
  • Central Air/heat
  • Separated dining area
  • Pantry/plenty of cabinets
  • Large kitchen
  • Garbage Disposal
  • Storage
  • Lots of natural light
  • Unfinished Basement
  • House good distance away from road

After months of looking, putting contracts on houses and having them fall through, and looking again, we finally found the perfect house.

… when I say “perfect” I mean most of the stuff on our list at a price we could afford. It wasn’t my dream house, built in the 70’s, the house was dated, most of the basement was unfinished. But, this was it!
Finally we had a house of our own, and my Pinterest boards began filling up with all the things I could do to

Make This House My Home.
